1. What were the challenges faced by India at the time of independence?
Ans. India faced three major challenges at the time of Independence. They are –
a.) Partition of India and Pakistan led to more than 80 lakh refugee coming to India from Pakistan. It was great challenge to rehabilitate these refugees.
b.) There were about of 562 small and big princely states. Their Integration into United India was challenging
c.) Build a stable political system to fulfill the expectations and hopes of he people and develop India into a strong nation.
2. What was the resolution passed by the Muslim League in its Lahore Session?
Ans. Muslim League passed the resolution in Lahore Session in 1940 to form Pakistan as separate nation in area having muslim majority.
3. What were the main clauses of the ‘Indian Independence Act’?
Ans. The main Clause of ‘Indian Independence Act’ were as follow:
a.) Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims in Punjab and Bengal legislative assemblies would meet and vote for partition. If a simple majority of either group wanted partition, then these provinces would be divided.
b.)Sindh was to take its own decision.
c.)The fate of North West Frontier Province and Sylhet district of Assam was to be decided by a referendum.
d.)India would be independent by 15 th August, 1947.
e.)The separate independence of Bengal was ruled out.
f.)A boundary commission to be set up in case of partition.
g.)The princely states could join any one of the unions and if they were not willing to join any of the unions then they were free to remain independent.
4. Who was given the responsibility of merging the princely states into the Indian Union?

5. What did Jawaharlal Nehru say on the radio while announcing the death of Gandhiji?
