1. Write a short-note on: Sufi-Movement.
Ans. The word ‘Sufi’ expresses the religious ideas of Islam. The Sufi movement is religious movement of Medieval India which gave birth to Hindu-Muslim harmony. Its main objective was to establish relationship of love between Man and God. There are four main sufi traditions in India: (1) Chishti (2) Suhrawardy (3) Qadri and (4) Naqshbandi. Of them Chishti and Suhrawardy traditions are famous. Chishti tradition was established by Sufi Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer and Suhrawardy traditon was founded by Shiabuddin Suhrawardy. Other important sufi are Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar, Baba Fariduddin-Ganj-e-Shakar, Niazamuddin Olia, Khwaja Baki Billah and Sheikh Ahmed Sarhindi.

2. Why did the Bhakti movement become polpular among people?
Ans. The Bhakti movement intended to abolish the discrimination of high and low, Superstition and evil religious practices. It taught common man that blessings God can be attained by everyone. Due these Bhakti movement became popular among people.

3. Give short introduction of saints of Maharashtra.
Ans. During bhakti movement many saints of Maharahstra like Gyaneshwar, Namdev, Eknath and Tukaram preached people.
A. Gyaneshwar – He started bhakti movement in Maharashtra. At age of 15, he wrote a criticism, ‘Gyaneshwari’ on Bhagwad Gita.
B. Namdev – He was sinful path in his youth but took turn to religion after realizing the truth.
C. Eknath – He opposed the discrimination on the basis of caste and creed
D. Tukaram – He was saint poet of Maharashtra. His popular work is ‘Abhanga’.

4. Give introduction of Kabir, the most important believer in Ekeshwar (Monotheism) tradition.
Ans. Kabir is one of the important Nirgun Saint of North India. He preached that there is only one God (Monotheism). He was disciple of Raidas. Kabir was weaver by profession. The collection of his poems is named ‘Bijak’. Kabir’s poems are also included in the holy book of Sikhs, ‘Guru Granth Shahib’.
